Poultry import to Hong Kong from locals in France, Poland and US suspended, the HK special administrative region Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced on later August 2024.
Hong Kong suspended poultry meat and products import from locals in France, Poland, and US. Why suspended?
The reason for the suspension was that CFS authority in Hong Kong acted on the recent notice from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza. Look at this recent press release from CFS
…that in view of notifications from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza in Morbihan Department in France, and outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Świebodziński District of Lubuskie Region in Poland and Hillsborough County of the State of Florida in the United States (US).

Suspension is not the only action CFS authority in HK taken regrading poultry import, earlier at the same week, Hong Kong to implement new raw meat and poultry import protocol, it is required that Meat processors must be registered with CFS prior to export.
Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety (CFS) announced that it will transition from a “systems-based” approach to recognizing foreign meat and poultry establishments to an “establishment or plant-based” registration system, according to a report.

In conclusion, food security and public heath are linked together, it is a matter of live and death. Considering this particular fact, CFS in Hong Kong took necessary measure with the intention of to protect its citizens' health, put food safety first, acted on good faith.
The recent cases of suspensions aim for the general good, and serves the public interests, making sure that imported poultry to HK from overseas supply countries does not pose a food safety risk, and threat to the public health.
Centre for Food Safety (CFS) in HK is responsible for implementation of policies on food safety control, and liaison with the Mainland China and overseas food authorities.
